Red Wings re-sign Mitch Callahan

The Detroit Red Wings have announced a new contract for one of the fan favorites in Grand Rapids.

Detroit has signed Mitch Callahan to a one-year contract, the Original Six franchise stated today.

Callahan, a 24-year-old native of Whittier, Calif., has spent the majority of his pro career with the Griffins in the AHL.

He played in one NHL game with the Wings during the 2013-14 season.

This past season, Callahan – a sixth-round pick of the Wings in 2009 – recorded 19 goals and 13 assists in 62 games, along with 94 penalty minutes.

In 237 career AHL games, he has 59 goals and 52 assists, along with 271 total penalty minutes.
