When all is said and done, the New York Rangers may have found a gem in with their third-round draft pick in 2016.

The Blueshirts selected Rochester native Sean Day with the No. 81 overall pick, picking up a defenseman who was once granted exceptional status by the Ontario Hockey League to enter the junior league a year early.

His three seasons with the Mississauga Steelheads hasn’t been what hockey people expected, but Day has the size – 6-foot-2, 228 pounds – and skating ability to still be a standout NHL prospect.

Last season, the dual citizen – Day was originally born in Belgium and has Canadian citizenship – racked up six goals and 16 assists for 22 points.

In 178 total OHL games, Day has recorded 22 goals and 52 assists for 74 total points.
