Michigan State announces 2016-17 hockey schedule

The Michigan State Spartans have finalized their schedule for the upcoming college hockey season.

MSU will begin play with an exhibition contest against the University of Toronto on Sunday, Oct. 2. NCAA games begin two weeks later, when the Spartans travel to Lake Superior State for two games with the Lakers on Oct. 14-15.

UPDATE: The Spartans will also hold a Green and White game at Munn Ice Arena on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 4 p.m.

To round out October, MSU will play home games with Denver (Oct. 21-22) and Princeton (Oct. 28).

In November, Michigan Tech (Nov. 4-5) and Ferris State (Nov. 11 changed to Thursday, Nov. 10) come to East Lansing. The Spartans follow up the Ferris State visit by heading to the home of the Bulldogs for a Saturday night tilt on Nov. 12, then they travel to North Dakota for two games on Nov. 25-26.

USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program Under-18 Team comes to Munn Ice Arena on Dec. 2 now Sunday, Dec. 4, before MSU opens Big Ten play with Minnesota at home on Dec. 9.

MSU will play rival Michigan on Friday, Jan. 20 in Ann Arbor; Saturday, Jan. 21 in East Lansing; Friday, Feb. 10 in Detroit; and Saturday, Feb. 11 in Ann Arbor.

The Big Ten Tournament takes place from March 16-18 at Joe Louis Arena.
