WCHA announces 2016-17 schedule

The 2016-17 schedule is here for Michigan’s WCHA hockey programs.

Here are some of the highlights:

  • Lake Superior State will host Michigan State Oct. 14-15 in Sault Ste. Marie for their annual Great Lake State Weekend festivities.
  • Ferris State will participate in the Three Rivers Classic in Pittsburgh from Dec. 29-30.
  • Michigan Tech travels south for games at Michigan, Michigan State and Notre Dame.
  • Northern Michigan is heading to Estero for the Florida College Hockey Classic on Dec. 28-29.
  • The Bulldogs have home-and-homes with Western Michigan and Michigan State.
  • The Wildcats have two games against Wisconsin in Green Bay, and two games in Madison.

The 2016-17 WCHA schedule starts with Alabama Huntsville visiting Ferris State on Oct. 1-2. The final weekend of the regular season – featuring a rivalry series for each school – has been moved up to Feb. 24-25.

Ferris State faces Minnesota State for WCHA Final Five title game rematches on Oct. 28-29 in Mankato and Dec. 9-10 in Big Rapids. The Bulldogs play Michigan Tech in only one series – Feb. 10-11 in Houghton.

The Cappo Cup will be decided in back-to-back weekends, as LSSU and NMU play in a pair of home-and-home sets Jan. 6-7 and Jan. 13-14.

Michigan Tech and Northern play home-and-homes on Oct. 28-29 and Feb. 24-25.
