Team USA will be playing for a medal at the 2016 IIHF World Championship.

With a 2-1 shootout victory against the Czech Republic Thursday afternoon, the American club has secured a spot in the semifinals, guaranteeing that they will play for at least a bronze medal in the prestigious international tournament.

The U.S. will take on the winner of Sweden vs. Canada in the semifinals – puck drops at 1:15 p.m. ET for that game.

Auston Matthews, a NTDP product and projected first overall pick in this summer’s NHL Draft, scored the deciding goal in the shootout, which you can see below.

The American squad dressed two Michigan natives – Red Wings forward Dylan Larkin (Waterford) and University of Michigan forward Tyler Motte (St. Clair). Larkin recorded two shots on goal with 19:07 worth of ice time, while Motte – who signed with the Chicago Blackhawks this offseason – had four shots and 15:10.

Kyle Connor (Shelby Township) was a scratch for Team USA, while Michigan alum JT Compher recorded one shot on 12:54 worth of ice time.

Keith Kinkaid tended to the U.S. goal, stopping 31 shots in the victory.
