One famous United States Hockey League alumnus familiar to the Michigan hockey audience will be in attendance at the league’s draft show tonight in Plymouth.

Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill will be stopping by CJ’s Brewing Company inside USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth during the USHL Phase 1 Draft tonight, which starts at 7 p.m.

Blashill, a Sault Ste. Marie native, is a USHL product both as a player and a coach. The Wings’ bench boss spent three seasons with the Des Moines Buccaneers before playing for the Ferris State Bulldogs during his college days.

After nine seasons of serving as an assistant coach for Ferris State and Miami, Blashill’s first head coaching opportunity came in the USHL, as he led the Indiana Ice for two seasons (one of which was a Clark Cup championship-winning campaign) from 2008-10.
