The Detroit Red Wings made a trade today to acquire a local prospect.

In exchange for a third-round pick, the Wings have claimed Dylan Sadowy, a longtime Saginaw Spirit forward and former third-round pick of the San Jose Sharks.

Sadowy was traded to the Barrie Colts this past season, but prior to that, he had spent more than three seasons with the Spirit.

San Jose needed to sign Sadowy by June 1, or he would become available in this summer’s NHL Draft. It is expected that since the Red Wings traded for him, they will be signing him before the June 1 cut-off.

Per Bob McKenzie, Sadowy has already agreed to terms with the Red Wings on a three-year, entry-level contract.

A native of Woodbridge, Ont., Sadowy recorded 116 goals and 72 assists for 188 points in 258 career OHL contests. This past season, he posted 70 points in 64 games between the Colts and Spirit.
