According to a report from Russia’s Sport Express, Pavel Datsyuk’s season isn’t over yet.

Sport Express has published a short article saying that pending a physical, the Red Wings’ star forward will play for his native Russia in the IIHF World Championship.

From a translated quote in the article:

“Tomorrow will know exactly when he will be able to come,” said Team Russia GM Alexei Zhamnov. He has to pass a medical examination at the club, and then arrive at the location of the team. said that injuries and sores he does not have, and he’s ready to play.”

Read into it how you would like, in terms of Datsyuk returning to the Wings or not. If he was completely healthy – or at least as healthy as he can be after his career’s worth of injuries – it could be seen as even more concerning that he was held without a single point in Detroit’s series with the Lightning.

Datsyuk told reporters after last night’s Game 5 that he needs time to make a final decision about next season – the last year of his contract with the Red Wings.
