Two more Michigan natives are national champions.

With a 5-1 victory over Quinnipiac Saturday night, North Dakota won its eighth national title in program history, and two Michigan boys helped lead the way.

Congratulations to Troy native Cam Johnson and Rochester native Christian Wolanin – the Michigan representatives on the Fighting Hawks roster.

Wolanin, the former captain of the Muskegon Lumberjacks and draft pick of the Ottawa Senators, finished +1 on the night in the national title game, played at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Fla. The freshman defenseman finished with four goals and 11 assists on the season, dressing for 32 games as a rookie blueliner.

Johnson, meanwhile, backstopped North Dakota to the Frozen Four tournament championship, stopping 32 of the 33 shots sent his way. The sophomore netminder was named to the all-tournament team after the game. On the season, Johnson recorded a 24-4-3 record with a 1.66 goals-against average and .935 save percentage.
