According to Crain’s Detroit, a metro Detroit businessman who owned the website domain LittleCaesarsArena.com struck a five-figure deal to relinquish control of the URL name.

Per the Crain’s report, Richard Williams said he sold the domain name to Sedo, a domain brokering firm, on Jan. 20.

News of the domain sale comes just two days after Christopher Ilitch announced that naming rights for the new home of the Red Wings will be announced in a month or so.

It should be noted, of course, that Williams doesn’t know who the buyer was for the domain name. While most people wouldn’t have the money to gamble on domain name purchases, some do – it could just be a calculated risk for someone who feels like ‘betting’ on the name of the new arena.

Either way, it’s interesting stuff – especially as we sit around wondering what we will be calling the new home for Hockeytown as it is being built.

What would you think of Little Caesars Arena? In this writer’s opinion, it’s better than some random company that doesn’t have strong ties to Michigan and Michigan’s hockey community.
