Farmington Hills native Spencer Wright named NAHL star of the week twice in a row

Spencer Wright is certainly on a hot streak.

The Farmington Hills native has been standing on his head in the NAHL, as the New Jersey Titans netminder has now been named the league’s East Division star of the week in back-to-back weeks.

Wright, a product of Novi Detroit Catholic Central, posted back-to-back victories this past weekend while allowing only two goals on 52 total shots. On Saturday, Wright stopped 20 shots in a 2-1 shootout victory, and followed that performance with a 30 saves in another 2-1 victory.

“This past weekend Spencer was the best player on our team,” Titans head coach Rich McKenna said. “He played a solid game on Saturday and really rose to the challenge on Sunday to help us get two wins. Good goaltending is a must this late in the season and we are lucky to have Spencer in our lineup.”

Last week, Wright stopped 47 shots for his first career NAHL shutout, leading his team to a 4-0 victory against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights on a Thursday night. On Friday, he made 40 saves in a 4-3 win, then on Saturday, he stopped 33 saves in a 4-3 shootout win.

On the season, Wright holds a 14-9-0-0 record with a .923 save percentage and 2.47 goals-against average.

“Spencer has played a big role in our current win streak,” McKenna had said previously. “He has established himself as a NAHL goalie this season and we are fortunate to have him while Jack Berry heals from injury.”

Wright led CC to back-to-back D1 state titles in 2013-14 and 2014-15.
