NHL All-Star Game rosters announced; Larkin representing Red Wings

You can add “NHL All-Star” to Dylan Larkin’s already-impressive resume.

The NHL Hockey Operations Department released the official rosters for the 2016 NHL All-Star Game Wednesday morning, and the 19-year-old Larkin was the lone Red Wings representative included.

With the fan vote having been completed to decide the captains for each of the four divisional teams, the league announced who would be filling in the rest of the 11-man rosters for the game, which takes place Jan. 31 at Bridgestone Arena, home of the Nashville Predators. Each roster is comprised of six forwards, three defensemen and two goalies.

Larkin has amassed 14 goals and 27 points in 39 games this season for the Wings, including a league-leading plus-22 rating. The Waterford native is also the lone Michigan native included in the crop.

He is joined by fellow NTDP alum John Gibson as the only rookies invited to the prestigious event.

The league’s fan voting ended Jan. 1, as Chicago’s Patrick Kane (Central), Arizona’s John Scott (Pacific), Washington’s Alex Ovechkin (Metropolitan) and Florida’s Jaromir Jagr (Atlantic) were voted in as divisional captains.

For the first time, the All-Star Game will take on a 3-on-3 tournament-style format.

The first two 20-minute games will serve as the semifinal round, with Larkin and the Atlantic Division squaring off with the Metropolitan Division, and the Central Division facing the Pacific Division. The Jan. 30 All-Star Skills Competition will decide which game is played first, as the winning conference will earn the right to choose whether they play first or second. As incentive, the winning team will be awarded $1 million to split.
