LSSU’s Gage Torrel named WCHA rookie of the month

Lake Superior State freshman Gage Torrel has something new to put in his trophy case.

The Lakers’ forward was named the WCHA Rookie of the Month for December, it was announced today.

Torrel, a native of Monticello, Minn., played a crucial role in the Lakers posting a 3-2-1 record during the final month of 2015 by leading the WCHA in freshman scoring and tying for fourth in overall scoring with two goals and five assists.

Both of his goals in December were game-winners – one shorthanded and one on the power play.
