Grand Rapids Griffins captain Jeff Hoggan will be wearing the ‘C’ on a different sweater later this month.

The leader of the Griffins will be one of the two captains for the 2016 Toyota All-Star Classic, held on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 in Syracuse, N.Y.

Hoggan and Syracuse Crunch forward Mike Angelidis were selected to be captains by the league president “in recognition of their outstanding leadership and service.”

Hoggan, in his fourth season as captain of the Griffins, has played in 653 regular-season AHL games over 14 seasons. He has registered 163 goals and 159 assists for 322 points during the time frame. The 37-year-old forward, a native of Hope, B.C., has won two Calder Cup championships – with Houston in 2003 and Grand Rapids in 2013. He was the 2014-15 recipient of the AHL’s Fred T. Hunt Memorial Award for sportsmanship, determination and dedication to hockey.

He joins Griffins alums Kip Miller (2007) and Travis Richards (2004) as Grand Rapids players who served as captain at the AHL’s all-star game.
