The Michigan State Spartans scored 12 goals over the weekend, and their captain factored into five of them.

The Big Ten announced today that MSU’s Michael Ferrantino has been named the conference’s first star of the week, after the senior leader of the Spartans racked up five assists in the Spartans’ sweep of New Hampshire.

Ferrantino, a Plymouth native, recorded two assists on the Spartans’ first two goals Friday night, setting the course for a 5-0 shutout victory. The next night, he recorded a career-high three assists, helping Michigan State to a 7-4 win.

It’s Ferrantino’s second time being named one of the Big Ten’s stars of the week, after he was named third star on Nov. 11, 2014.

Wisconsin goaltender Matt Jurusik and Minnesota’s Leon Bristedt were the other stars of the week.
