Ferris State freshman forward Corey Mackin had himself quite a weekend, and the WCHA took notice.

The conference named Mackin, a Philadelphia native, their WCHA Rookie of the Week after leading all freshmen with three points over the weekend.

Mackin played a big role in the Bulldogs splitting a weekend series with defending MacNaughton Cup champion Minnesota State. The freshman forward recorded a pair of assists in the Bulldogs’ 7-4 win Friday night, then scored in the second period of Saturday’s 3-2 loss.

Mackin now has three goals and six assists on the season.

Alaska’s Tyler Morley claimed the offensive player of the week award, while Minnesota State’s Casey Nelson was named defensive player of the week.
