Michigan State coach Tom Anastos said he wants more offensive output from his defensemen this season.

So far, so good.

MSU freshman blueliner Zach Osburn was named the Big Ten’s second star of the week today, after the rookie defenseman notched two goals and an assist in the Spartans’ two games at the Icebreaker in Maine.

The Plymouth native scored twice in Friday’s 3-3 tie with Maine, then added an assist in the Spartans’ 4-1 win over Lake Superior State on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Osburn’s teammate JT Stenglein earned some recognition as well, taking the third weekly star from the Big Ten. Stenglein, a junior forward from Greece, N.Y., recorded one goal and three assists on the weekend.

The Big Ten’s top spot went to Curtis Loik of Penn State.
