The inaugural 2015-16 National Women’s Hockey League season is nearly upon us, giving women a chance to play professional hockey and earn a paycheck for their efforts.

The season opener is slated for Sunday, Oct. 11 at 1:30 p.m., as the Connecticut Whale host the New York Riveters in front of a sold-out crowd at Chelsea Piers Connecticut, while the Buffalo Beauts play host to the Boston Pride at 3:30 p.m.

Manon Rheaume, the first and only woman to ever play in an NHL game and a Honeybaked coach, will drop the puck at the ceremonial face-off at the HarborCenter in Buffalo prior to the Beauts-Pride game.
