Dylan Larkin said he had a little trouble containing his emotions this morning.

The Waterford native, just 19 years old, was called into the Red Wings coaches’ offices for some big news from coach Jeff Blashill and GM Ken Holland – that Larkin made Detroit’s regular-season roster.

“Blash called me in, and Ken Holland told me,” Larkin told MiHockey today. “It was just us three in the room, and I couldn’t help but crack a smile.”

The USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program and University of Michigan alum certainly impressed during the 2015 preseason; Larkin recorded three goals and an assist in five appearances.

“Incredible,” Larkin said, when asked how he was feeling just hours after the announcement. “It keeps…after scoring a goal against Pittsburgh at The Joe, I got a lot of texts, and today, a lot of texts and tweets and everything, it’s been pretty crazy. It’s been a dream come true. Just to be able to call my mom and tell her, it was one of the best feelings of my life.”

Larkin said that Blashill and Ken Holland had some simple advice for him after telling him he was staying in Detroit.

“They just said play your game, and it’s another step from preseason,” Larkin said. “Just keep pushing the envelope, and continue to impress.”
