Heading into the 2015-16 OHL season, there was some talk about whether Alex DeBrincat could have the same kind of offensive impact for his Erie Otters club without Connor McDavid.

The Farmington Hills native made a big statement about that on Thursday night.

DeBrincat scored five goals in a 6-1 win on the road in Niagara, which sets a new franchise mark for goals in a single regular-season game.

Seems like the reigning OHL player of the year isn’t going to have much trouble continuing to score without his former linemate (McDavid was drafted No. 1 overall by Edmonton in last summer’s NHL Draft, in case you’ve been living under a rock or something).

After spoiling Niagara’s home opener with his big night, DeBrincat has seven points in two games. Last year, he recorded 104 in 68 games.
