Over the course of a week, the U.S. Women’s Under-18 and Under-22 Select Teams played in a series of games with rival Canada, and the two countries split the series victories.

The U22 team finished with a 2-1 record in the series, thanks to an overtime victory Saturday night. Troy native Lexie Shaw was between the pipes for the U22 team in a 2-1 OT win for the American squad, and she stopped 21 of the 22 shots she faced in the contest.

“It took us a few shifts to get going early but we picked it up and found our game,” said Ken Klee (Denver, Colo.), head coach of the U22 select team, in a release. “We applied a lot of pressure and stuck to our game plan and got the result we wanted in OT. I’m very proud of the team and all the effort they put in during the series.”

Megan Keller (Farmington) was the other Michigan member of the U22 select team; she finished with an even stat line, along with two penalty minutes, in the three-game series.

Team USA won the first game by a 4-1 final score, then fell 2-1 in the second match-up before the OT win on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the U18 team fell 3-2 in their first game to Canada on Thursday, then rebounded for a 2-0 win the next day. Canada prevailed 5-2 in the winner-take-all third game.

There were no Michigan natives on the U18 team.
