There’s that right shot on the point they keep talking about.

The Red Wings have landed Mike Green, one of the top free agents available this offseason, according to TSN reporter Bob McKenzie.

UPDATE (3:58 p.m.): The Red Wings have made it official.

In Green, Detroit gets a right-handed shot for their defensive corps, and a player who knows how to put points on the scoresheet.

The 29-year-old defenseman has 113 goals and 247 assists for 360 points in 575 career games, all with the Washington Capitals.

Green recorded 1o goals and 35 assists in 72 games last year, along with a plus-15 rating. That’s his best season over the last few years, but still not a return to form from 2008-2010, when he recorded a combined 149 points and plus-63 rating over two seasons.

Per Pierre LeBrun of ESPN, Green has been signed to a three-year contract at $6 million per year.
