The Detroit Red Wings added to their organizational depth today, signing forward Eric Tangradi to a one-year contract.

Tangradi, 26, spent the 2014-15 season with the Montreal Canadiens’ franchise, splitting time between the NHL club and the Hamilton Bulldogs, their AHL affiliate.

A second-round pick of the Anaheim Ducks in 2007, the native of Philadelphia has cracked an NHL line-up for 143 games in his career, recording five goals and 10 assists in the timeframe.

While the Red Wings don’t release specific details on contracts, it is assumed that he will be on a two-way deal, meaning he will spend the majority (if not all) of the 2015-16 season with the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL.

Signing Tangradi should in no way impact the signing of other free agents this summer for the Wings. Gustav Nyquist, arguably the team’s top priority for the remainder of the offseason, has elected for salary arbitration, and those hearings will take place in Toronto from July 20 through Aug. 4.
