The Philadelphia Flyers may have found a late gem in the 2015 NHL Draft.

At No. 158 in the sixth round, the Flyers claimed Brighton native Cooper Marody, a University of Michigan commit.

Marody is fresh off a USHL Clark Cup championship, helping the Sioux Falls Stampede defeat the Muskegon Lumberjacks (Marody’s previous USHL club) in the league finals. He recorded 47 points in 37 games with the Stampede after a mid-season trade sent him away from Muskegon.

The Honeybaked and Orchard Lake St. Mary’s product was ranked the No. 53 overall player in North America by NHL Central Scouting, improving ten spots from the midterm rankings after his strong finish to the 2014-15 campaign.

“Cooper is a highly skilled, high IQ hockey player that plays well with the puck,” Michigan assistant coach Brian Wiseman said via MGoBlue.com when the Wolverines announced his commitment. “He plays the type of game that we’re trying to play, a puck-possession, create-offense type of player.”

The NHL lists Marody at 6-foot and 173 pounds.
