The Ducks must have liked what they saw in Brent Gates.

Anaheim used their No. 80 overall pick on the Grand Rapids native, bringing the Green Bay Gamblers forward into their organization during the 2015 NHL Draft.

Gates, a University of Minnesota commit, was ranked No. 105 among North American skaters by NHL Central scouting.

He has impressed at the junior hockey level, however, recording 27 points in 33 games this year.

Gates’ father played baseball for the Golden Gophers, making Brent a legacy recruit even though he will be playing a different sport at Minnesota.
