When the Red Wings face off against the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round of the NHL playoffs, they will be competing against a coach very familiar with the state of Michigan.

Tampa Bay head coach Jon Cooper wasn’t born in Michigan, but it is the place where his coaching career began. The Prince George, British Columbia native ended up at Cooley Law School in Lansing while he was considering being a player agent, but a request from his boss to coach a high school hockey team in the area changed his life forever.
