When the Arizona State Sun Devils begin their inaugural season as a Division I college hockey program next season, they will have five Michigan natives on their roster – and one already has NCAA experience.

Novi native Brock Krygier, who has spent the last three seasons with the Michigan State Spartans, was announced as one of the latest additions to the Sun Devils hockey program today.

Krygier, son of Muskegon Lumberjacks head coach Todd Krygier, was a redshirt sophomore with the Spartans this past season. According to a report from Justin Emerson of SBNation, Krygier has already completed a bachelor’s degree from MSU, which means he is eligible to transfer immediately and still have two years of hockey left when he arrives at Arizona State.

“Being an inaugural program next year, I thought was a really unique experience to be apart of that,” Krygier said in the article.

Krygier played in 23 games with the Spartans this past season, recording three assists.

“We had a need for an experienced guy at the back end and he just fit into what we’re looking for it,” head coach Greg Powers told SBNation. “It made sense for him, it made sense for us and we’re thrilled he chose to come here over a few other options.”

Krygier joins Rochester native Jordan Masters (BCHL’s West Kelowna) and East Lansing native Louie Rowe (USHL’s Omaha Lancers) as the Michigan contingent on the Sun Devils’ first-ever signing class.

They join Glen Arbor native Eric Rivard and New Boston native Connor Schmidt, who were already with the Sun Devils program when they were competing in the ACHA.

The Arizona State team has not announced its inaugural schedule, as well – they will make one trip to Michigan in 2015-16 when they take on the Lake Superior State Lakers on Nov. 13-14.
