According to a report from Deadline.com, TV channel IFC will be airing a show about a beer-league hockey team sometime soon.

The show, called “Benders” (we approve), is said to center around a group of 20-somethings that have little hockey experience, but are trying to win their adult league title.

IFC has signed up for eight half-hour episodes for the hockey-themed show.

Scared about the hockey authenticity? Well, it’s being created by Denis Leary, who, while a polarizing Hollywood personality, has long been one of hockey’s most loyal celebrities.

“Benders” is being created by Leary’s Apostle production company – the same outfit that brought the world “Rescue Me” on FX.

“Hockey knowledge not required, these guys are all about their beer and their bros,” Jennifer Caserta, IFC’s president, said in a statement, however.

We will put our trust in Leary on this one, though, considering he still builds an outdoor rink at his home in Connecticut.

He’s a big Bruins fan, by the way…
