For the second consecutive year, USA Hockey’s Brian Fishman Internship will be fulfilled by one of Michigan’s own.

Dearborn native (and MiHockey writer) Alyssa Girardi was named the 17th recipient of the internship Tuesday, making her the sixth Michigan native to receive the position.

The two-year program begins with a 12-month stint at USA Hockey’s national office in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and the second 12 months in the communications department with the U.S. National Team Development Program in Plymouth, Michigan.

Established in 1999, the Brian Fishman Internship is given annually to a college graduate pursuing a career in athletic communications. Brian Fishman was the manager of communications and marketing for the U.S. NTDP before suddenly passing away at the age of 28 on Jan. 7, 1999.

“Being selected as the Brian Fishman Intern is an incredible honor, and I’d like to thank USA Hockey and the Fishman family for the opportunity,” Girardi said. “Hockey is my passion, and I hope I can carry on Brian’s legacy through this internship by emulating his enthusiasm and dedication to the game.”

Girardi will assist with various communication projects, event promotions and publishing initiatives, including USA Hockey Magazine.

This season, Girardi served as a public relations assistant with the Detroit Red Wings. Her past experience includes a public relations internship with the Grand Rapids Griffins and two years as a staff writer with MiHockey.
