Former Ferris State Bulldogs captain Kyle Bonis was named an AMI Graphics ECHL Plus Performer of the Month for April after leading the league with a plus-nine rating.

The Toledo Walleye forward was even or better in five of six April contests, and was plus-four in the 8-2 season-finale victory over Kalamazoo. The 26-year-old Bonis finished the season with a plus-14 rating.

Bonis, a 2013 Hobey Baker Award finalist, also finished his second season with 36 goals and 23 assists for 59 points and just eight penalty minutes in 65 games, career-bests across the board for him. His 36 goals were good for the Walleye team lead and helped boost Toledo to the ECHL’s best record overall and first seed in the Western Conference for the 2015 Kelly Cup Playoffs.

Bonis also saw three games with the Grand Rapids Griffins this season.

A native of Lindsay, Ontario, Bonis played in Traverse City for the NAHL’s North Stars from 2007-2009 before heading to Ferris State for four years.
