The Detroit Red Wings acquired that right-handed shot on the blue line they have been seeking for a couple years now.

Veteran defenseman Marek Zidlicky heads to Detroit from New Jersey in exchange for a third-round draft pick in 2016, according to The Hockey News’ Ken Campbell and others.

Zidlicky, 38, is a former sixth-round pick of the New York Rangers in 2001, standing at 5-foot-11 and 190 pounds. He is best known for his puck-moving ability and, again, his right-handed shot in Detroit’s case.

Zidlicky has amassed 23 points in 63 games this season for the Devils. In 762 career games, the Czech Republic native has 390 points across an 11-year career between Nashville, Minnesota and New Jersey. He also has skated in 38 playoff games, posting 18 points from the back end.
