It was an exciting season for the Michigan Tech Huskies, but it came to an early end Friday evening in North Dakota.

The MTU hockey team made their first appearance in the NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey Tournament since 1981, only to fall in overtime to St. Cloud State by a final score of 3-2.

“It was a real good college hockey game,” Tech coach Mel Pearson said on the team’s official website. “I’m very proud of my team for the effort they put in. We carried the play for most of it until the third period. We missed a couple wide-open nets and hats off to St. Cloud for making the plays to win the game.

“I’m extremely proud of this team for all they’ve accomplished and for putting Michigan Tech back on the college hockey map.”

Michigan Tech concludes their season with a 29-10-2 overall record, and plenty of accomplishments to cherish. The Huskies grabbed the No. 1 ranking in college hockey at one point in the season, and routinely were listed among the Top 5 in the country. They made their first appearance in the WCHA title game since 1996, and Pearson has rebuilt the program to continue their winning ways moving forward.
