The Plymouth Whalers’ season may be over, but their goaltender’s isn’t.

The Carolina Hurricanes announced on Friday that they have signed goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic to a three-year, two-way entry-level contract.

Nedeljkovic, the team’s second-round draft pick in 2014, will now report to the Charlotte Checkers, the Hurricanes’ American Hockey League affiliate.

“Alex had another strong year with Plymouth, and we are pleased with his development thus far,” said Carolina executive vice president and general manager Ron Francis. “We anticipate that he will play an important role in our organization’s future.”

The 19-year-old Nedeljkovic just finished his third season of OHL hockey with the Whalers. A Belle Tire and Metro Jets alum, Nedeljkovic finished ranked first among OHL netminders in saves (1,827), tied for third in shutouts (5), fourth in games played (55), and fifth in save percentage (.916) for a struggling Whalers squad.

He was named the OHL goaltender of the year in 2013-14.
