Zach Nagelvoort played a big role in the Wolverines’ win over the Spartans at the Hockey City Classic in Chicago this past weekend, and the Big Ten league office just recognized him for his effort.

The conference announced that the University of Michigan netminder is their second star of the week, after Nagelvoort turned aside 31 of the 32 shots he faced in the outdoor 4-1 victory late Saturday night.

Nagelvoort, a Holland, Mich., native, stopped 20 straight shots through the first two periods, helping his Wolverines build up a commanding 3-0 lead in the process.

In his last three starts, Nagelvoort is 2-1-0 with a 1.01 goals-against average and a .961 save percentage.

“I thought he was smart with the puck, outside of the one rebound which they scored, on a loose puck,” Wolverines coach Red Berenson said of his goaltender after the game. “He covered up everything around the net. It was hard because the puck was bouncing. He helps our D by playing the puck behind the net.”
