MSU alum Jake Chelios, Finlandia alum Travis Armstrong set to join K-Wings

The Kalamazoo Wings announced today that they are expecting to add familiar names to their blue line.

First, Former Michigan State defenseman Jake Chelios, son of NHL hall-of-famer Chris Chelios, has been reassigned to the K-Wings from the Chicago Wolves of the AHL.

Chelios, a Bloomfield Hills native, is in the midst of his first professional hockey season after four years in East Lansing. In 32 games with the Chicago Wolves this season, he has recorded one goal and 13 assists, along with 28 penalty minutes.

Last year, upon the completion of his collegiate career, Chelios played seven games with the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye, recording one goal and one assist, and four games with the Wolves.

In his final season with the Spartans, Chelios recorded two goals and 19 assists, and was named the team’s Dr. John Downs Most Outstanding Defensive Player Award.

The K-Wings also announced that they have signed former Finlandia University captain Travis Armstrong to an amateur tryout agreement, pending league approval.

Armstrong, a native of Smith Falls, Ont., recorded 13 goals and 31 assists in 90 games with the Lions over four seasons.
