It wasn’t the World Junior tournament appearance the U.S. was hoping for, but Dylan Larkin made the most of it.

Despite his team being eliminated in the quarterfinals, Larkin, a University of Michigan forward and Red Wings draftee, excelled on the international stage.

Larkin, 18, led the U.S. team in scoring with seven points in five games. Five of those points were goals, and just as impressively, Larkin finished with a plus-seven rating in the tournament.

He was one of six forwards selected by NHL.com to their World Junior all-tournament team, joining the likes of Connor McDavid, Max Domi and Sam Reinhart.

Larkin, Will Butcher and Hudson Fasching were named Team USA’s top players of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Zach Werenski (Grosse Pointe) finished the tournament with one goal and one assist, along with a plus-three rating. The Wolverines’ defenseman logged plenty of minutes for the Red, White and Blue, despite being only 17 years old in the Under-20 tournament.

Traverse City native Brandon Halverson recorded a shutout in the only game he played in, stopping all 14 shots he faced in a 6-0 win over Germany.

St. Clair native Tyler Motte finished with one assist in the five games, along with 13 shots on goal.
