USA Hockey has officially started a new campaign aimed at raising funds to purchase hockey sticks for new hockey players.

The USA Hockey Foundation’s new “It Starts With A Stick” campaign begins with the goal of raising funds to put 12,000 sticks in the hands of new hockey players during Hockey Weekend Across America on Feb. 20-22, 2015.

The goal is to raise $150,000 by the end of December for the campaign.

“This is an exciting project that will help new kids trying hockey maintain and grow their passion for the sport,” said Ron DeGregorio, president of USA Hockey and The USA Hockey Foundation, in a release. “I’m confident the generosity of the hockey community and beyond will help us reach our goal.”

On the “It Starts With A Stick” campaign webpage, donation requests are broken down as follows:

1 stick ($12.50)
2 sticks ($25)
4 sticks ($50)
6 sticks ($75)
8 sticks ($100)

A hockey stick is the key to helping kids develop a deeper passion and love for the game, which gives them the opportunity to be life-long hockey fans and players.”
