Red Wings players and Michigan natives Luke Glendening (Grand Rapids) and Danny DeKeyser (Clay Township) gave 20 children a pizza party and a shopping spree at Meijer in Northville on Dec. 9, as part of their individual charity initiatives in Metro Detroit.

Glendening hosted 10 children with Down syndrome and their chaperones – the University of Michigan alum welcomes a child with Down syndrome and his or her family to every Red Wings home game as part of his ‘Gametime with Glendening’ program, and he meets with them after the game.

Meanwhile, DeKeyser welcomed 10 children from Operation Military Kids. The Western Michigan alum hosts a military member (active or retired) and a guest at every Red Wings home game through his ‘DeKeyser’s Hometown Heroes’ program.

Each child received $125 to spend on themselves and their loved ones during the shopping spree, with the Red Wings players helping them out along the way.
