Michigan captain Andrew Copp named Big Ten’s second star of the week

The Wolverines’ captain is getting some recognition for his individual play.

Michigan’s Andrew Copp was named the Big Ten’s second star of the week today, after he had a big weekend for the Wolverines in their sweep of American International at Yost Ice Arena.

Copp, an Ann Arbor native, posted four points over the two games. On Friday, he recorded two goals and an assist, matching a career high in points in a single game. Then, on Saturday, Copp followed up with another goal, helping his UM squad finish off back-to-back wins.

The Wolverines’ captain is now on a three-game goal-scoring streak.

It’s the third time he has cracked the Big Ten weekly awards list, and the first time since March 18, 2014. Copp is the first Michigan player honored with a conference weekly selection since Dylan Larkin was named the Big Ten’s second star on Oct. 28.

Penn State’s Casey Bailey and Taylor Holstrom were the only Big Ten players honored by the conference today.
