It took longer than Red Wings fans would have liked, but it’s over now.

Detroit and defenseman Danny DeKeyser agreed on a new two-year deal for the 24-year-old defenseman. The Red Wings announced the signing on their official Twitter account a few minutes past 5 p.m.

DeKeyser, a native of Clay Township, Mich., played his first full season with the Wings during the 2013-14 campaign, recording 23 points in 65 games.

He originally signed with Detroit in 2013 after his junior season at Western Michigan, picking his hometown team over nearly every other NHL franchise.
