The Muskegon Lumberjacks announced their 2014-15 roster today. They also announced that one of their new goalies has committed to Ohio State.

Michael Latorella, a Macomb native and the USHL team’s new goaltender, has committed to the Buckeyes. The netminder previously played in the Honeybaked organization.

“After taking my official visit to the campus over the summer, I felt that it was the perfect fit for me,” Latorella said in a release. “I already have a great relationship with the coaching staff including Coach (Joe) Exter, who has been my mentor during USA Hockey’s (Warren) Strelow Goalie Mentor Program over the years. The campus and hockey facilities (at Ohio State) are top-of-the-line, and it feels great to be committing to a school that is really invested in me and my hockey future.”

Latorella was the Lumberjacks’ third-round pick (41st overall) in this year’s USHL Phase 1 Draft. In his three preseason games so far with the Lumberjacks, he has recorded a 3-0-0 record with a 2.00 goals-against average and .931 save percentage. He recently shut out the NTDP Under-17 Team in a visit to Ann Arbor (see MiHockey’s photo gallery of that game here).
