Seven Michigan names survive World Junior evaluation camp cuts

By @MichaelCaples –

USA Hockey announced the 27 players remaining at their World Junior evaluation camp today, and there are still seven Michigan names in Lake Placid.

The players remaining – camp opened with 42 – will now take on the Czech Republic, Finland and Sweden later this week as they continue to try to make an impression on the coaching staff. While they are making cuts, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the players sent home have no chance of representing Team USA at the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship (held in Montreal and Toronto); the team will be selected later this fall. Players who didn’t appear at the camp also still have a chance to make the U.S. squad.

The players below are the ones still participating in the camp for the rest of the week:

Goaltenders

Brandon Halverson – Traverse City, Mich. – Soo Greyhounds (OHL)

Defensemen

Michael Downing – Canton, Mich. – University of Michigan (Big Ten)

Forwards

J.T. Compher – Northbrook, Ill. – University of Michigan (Big Ten)

Kyle Connor – Shelby Township, Mich. – Youngstown Phantoms (USHL)

Dylan Larkin – Waterford, Mich. – U.S. National Under-18 Team (USHL) – Red Wings draft pick (2014)

Tyler Motte – St. Clair, Mich. – University of Michigan (Big Ten)

Dominic Turgeon – Cherry Hills, Colo. – Portland Winterhawks (WHL) – Red Wings draft pick (2014)
