Red Wings re-sign Dan Cleary to a one-year contract

The Red Wings announced a signing today, and it’s another player returning for more time with Detroit.

Detroit officially re-signed forward Daniel Cleary today to a one-year contract. TSN’s Darren Dreger says the deal is worth $1.5 million, with $1 million available in performance-based bonuses.

Cleary, 35, scored four goals and four assists in 52 games last year. He signed a one-year contract last year after multiple reports that he had signed a multi-year deal with the Philadelphia Flyers.

The production from the Carbonear, Newfoundland native has steadily dropped over the last few seasons; after recording 26 goals in 2010-11, he posted 12 in 2011-12, 9 in 2012-13 and then four last season.

Next year will mark his 10th with the Original Six club. The former first-round pick of the Chicago Blackhawks (No. 13 overall in 1997) has 164 goals and 221 assists in 921 career NHL games.
