Red Wings announce two assistant coach hires in Jim Hiller and Andrew Brewer

The Red Wings have rounded out their assistant coaching positions, it appears.

Detroit announced today the hirings of Jim Hiller and Andrew Brewer as the club’s new assistant coaches. The pair will be joining head coach Mike Babcock and recently hired assistant coach Tony Granato on the Wings’ staff list this fall.

Hiller comes to the Wings after spending 11 years in the Western Hockey League and British Columbia Hockey League, most recently serving as head coach of the WHL’s Tri-City Americans from 2009-14. He is a Northern Michigan University alum, having skated for the Wildcats from 1989-92, and he also played in 21 regular-season and two playoff games with the Wings from 1992-93.

Brewer joins the Wings after spending three years with Hockey Canada, working as the organization’s video coach for international events that included Canada’s gold-medal team at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia (with Babcock serving as head coach).
