The Wings locked up one of their top young forwards today.

Detroit announced today that they have agreed to terms on a new three-year deal with Tomas Tatar.

The 23-year-old forward, a native of Ilava, Slovakia, recorded 19 goals and 20 assists for 39 points in 73 games this past season, along with a +12 rating. It was his first full season with Detroit, after playing in only 18 last year, and nine in 2010-11.

Tatar was second on the team in goals, third on the team in plus/minus, and first on the team in shots (158) and shootout goals (3).

The Wings’ second-round pick in 2009 also represented Slovakia at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, tying second for the team lead with two points in four games.

Tatar was the Grand Rapids Griffins’ MVP in their Calder Cup-winning 2013 postseason campaign, after scoring 21 points in 24 playoff games.
