Green Bay Gamblers add Adam Krug, Brian Sommariva to coaching staff

The Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League announced two additions to their coaching staff today, and they’re both Michigan natives.

The club has hired former Indiana Ice assistant coach Adam Krug to serve as an assistant coach for the Gamblers, while they have also hired former Plymouth Whalers assistant coach and assistant GM Brian Sommariva as their director of scouting.

The Gamblers recently promoted Hancock native Pat Mikesch to the role of head coach and general manager.

“I am excited to add Adam and Brian to the Gamblers organization,” Mikesch said in a release. “Both have a wealth of experience at both coaching and scouting at the junior level. They know what it takes to win and will bring that attitude to the Gamblers organization.”

Krug spent the last two seasons with the USHL’s Indiana Ice, a team that has entered dormancy after capturing the Clark Cup as league champions. The Livonia native played professionally in the ECHL and in Europe after competing for Wayne State and Adrian College during his college days.

Sommariva, a Plymouth native, worked for the Whalers since 2006, first as an assistant coach and then as assistant GM from 2010-14. He is a Michigan State graduate who was the team president of the Spartans’ club team, and he served as an assistant coach at Notre Dame Prep School before joining the Whalers.
