The future appears to be very bright for one of the Red Wings’ most recent draft picks.

Anthony Mantha, the club’s first-round pick from last year’s NHL Draft, was named the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s most valuable player last night at the league’s Golden Puck Awards.

Mantha, the 20th overall pick in the draft, scored 57 goals in 57 games this year. The 63 assists added to the goals total gives him the top spot in the league’s scoring race, as well, which means that Mantha took home the Jean Beliveau Trophy as the QMJHL’s top scorer.

“It’s a great honour to have,” the Val-d’Or’s Foreurs forward told The Globe and Mail last night. “I worked hard for myself and with my teammates to reach that goal.”
