#OctopiHockeytown returns for 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs

By Michael Caples –

The Detroit Red Wings announced today that their #OctopiHockeytown playoff campaign will be taking place once again this year.

The ‘Octopi Hockeytown’ campaign – which saw 10 million impressions through social media, will be the Wings’ marketing push for the second straight season.

Fans who use the #OctopiHockeytown hashtag can see their message on OctopiHockeytown.com, and they have a chance of seeing their Instagram photos appear on billboards across Metro Detroit.

The stairways leading up to the West Entrance of Joe Louis Arena will also be decorated in a #OctopiHockeytown theme.

Fans can also download a photo of an octopus here, and “toss it” at their friends via Facebook and Twitter.

For the Red Wings’ first home game of the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs – Game 3 against Boston on Tuesday – the Wings will distribute 22,000 red glow wands. Rally towels will be distributed for the rest of the first round contests.
