The American Hockey League announced their all-star first and second teams yesterday, and the latter squad featured plenty of Michigan names.

Grosse Pointe Woods native Andy Miele was named the center of the AHL Second All-Star Team, while Grand Rapids Griffins standouts Petr Mrazek and Adam Almquist were given the same honor.

Miele, who won the Hobey Baker during his time with Miami University, is currently tied for third in the AHL scoring race. In his third pro season, Miele has set career-high marks in goals (27), assists (42) and points (69) in 65 games with the Portland Pirates. He has nine power-play tallies, one shorthanded goal, and two game-winning goals. Plus, he recorded two assists in seven games with the Phoenix Coyotes during a call-up to the big league.

Meanwhile, the two Griffins honored by the AHL have had exceptional seasons, as well. After leading the Griffins to a Calder Cup championship last year, Mrazek picked up right where he left off this season. The highly-touted Red Wings prospect leads the AHL in both goals-against average (2.03) and save percentage (.927), while holding a 22-7-1 record.

Almquist currently leads all AHL defensemen with 48 assists and ranks third with 52 points in 69 games. He’s in just his second AHL season, as well, and he’s leading the Griffins with 27 points on the power play. As part of an impressive defensive corps, Almquist has helped the Griffins to the Western Conference’s best goals-against average per game, at 2.43 goals per game.
