The Western Michigan hockey program announced today that junior defenseman Jordan Oesterle has signed with the Edmonton Oilers.

Oesterle, a native of Dearborn Heights, scored seven goals and recorded 24 assists in 37 games with the Broncos this season, which earned him a two-year, entry-level contract with the NHL club. He will join the Oilers’ AHL affiliate in Oklahoma City for the conclusion of the season.

“I’m very excited to be joining the Edmonton Oilers,” Oesterle said in a release from the Broncos. “It has been a dream of mine and I want to thank everyone involved here at Western Michigan. Without them this couldn’t be possible.”

Oesterle joins Matt Tennyson (San Jose, 2012), Luke Witkowski (Tampa Bay) and Danny DeKeyser (2013, Detroit) as the fourth WMU defenseman over two seasons to sign with an NHL club.

“We want to congratulate Jordan on pursuing his career in professional hockey with a great organization like Edmonton,” head coach Andy Murray said in the same release. “Jordan is a great student-athlete and has done a fine job of representing Western Michigan on and off the ice.”
